Wytheville First Church of God goes Operation Christmas Child
by J.B. Wright
The Wytheville First Church of God started Operation Christmas Child a few years ago, and now they have packing parties and go all out to get children less fortunate a box to open at Christmas.
Operation Christmas Child is an operation where people in America and around the world prepare shoe boxes for children in poor countries and for people who are less fortunate. Small non-perishable items are put inside the shoe boxes for children between the ages 2 to 14.

Wytheville, Va., Nov. 15, Racking up the Shoe Boxes: Pastor Donn Sunshine stands at the front of the church as the shoe boxes are counted.
The Wytheville First Church of God strives to beat its record of shoe boxes from each year before. This year, they have already beat its record from last year by 10%. They have created 402 shoe boxes, with the church's average attendance being around 75-80 people.
Rita Sunshine, the Pastor's wife, said "When you see people's faces light up and tears roll down their faces when they are putting the shoe boxes together, it is unbelievable. My husband and I started Operation Christmas Child at our old church about 15 years ago and have done it ever since. It is wonderful."
Operation Christmas Child has its headquarters in Boone, North Carolina. That is where all of the shoe boxes will be shipped to and also shipped out from.
